I enrolled in the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Investing certificate course at Columbia Business School to learn more about how businesses perceive and measure environmental impact.

My concentration during the Masters program was Health Policy and Management. I worked as a graduate research assistant with Dr. Julia Hastings conducting diabetes disparities research and Dr. Ricky Leung conducting health tech / big data research. My thesis project focused on “Gender Differences in Out-of-Pocket Expenses for Diabetes Care among Blacks,” and was awarded the David Axelrod Honorable Mention for Excellence in Research (2016) and the New York State Public Health Association Poster Presentation Award (2016).
Courses: Epidemiology, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Policy Analysis, Health Economics, Organizational Management, Financial Management, Research Methods, and Environmental Health.

The Summer Public Health Scholars Program is a partnership between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and multiple schools at Columbia University, including the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, College of Dental Medicine, School of Nursing, and the Mailman School of Public Health.
During the summer program, I interned at Harlem Hospital Family Health Department and improved care coordination by 90% for HIV-positive patients after cleaning health data and identifying gaps in care.
Courses: Introduction to Public Health, Epidemiology, and Health Disparities in Public Health.
Other: After completing the program, I returned the following year to serve as a Teaching Assistant in 2015 and Head Teaching Assistant in 2016. I taught courses entitled: Case Studies in Public Health, Introduction to Epidemiology, and Disparities in Public Health.

My concentration during the Bachelor’s program was Public and Community Health with minors in Policy and Biochemistry. During my junior and senior year, I interned with the Tompkins County Health Department, drafted the county’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan and identified possible evacuation routes and prophylaxis storage throughout the county.
